A Little Bit About Us

We’re a small group of horse enthusiasts based between Newtown & Welshpool. We have a talented yard manager who skillfully works with individual horses - using plain, good horsemanship. We take the best of natural and traditional horsemanship and work out solutions for each of our boys and girls. The goal is to produce a well adjusted, safe and happy horse, and to match them with the right home.

We believe that tehre is no substitute for experience. We're increasingly seeing horses who have been messed up by "have a go" horse trainers - and either those horses are premanently ruined or people like us have to pick up the pieces. You can go to a demo and buy a "special" rope and a DVD - but this does not make a horse trainer!  We work with professional and proven horse trainers and therapists - with many, many years experience.

We take on horses and ponies who have run out of options. We occasionally buy them from auctions; more often they're gifted from private buyers who need to re-home their horses urgently because of extreme personal circumstances. We're offered horses who are not able to be sold privately because they're not straightforward - they normally have issues and have been out of work for a long time.  Many horses are being moved on due to bereavement, loss of grazing, divorce, job loss etc - we're here to help them into a job and good long-term homes.

We do not usually deal with neglected or mistreated horses and ponies - there are other charities who are brilliant at this. Instead, we work with our horses to prepare them for their future role (competition, hacking, companion, youngster needing experienced handling), and then find them the right long term loan home.

Some owners want to keep in touch with their horses, others prefer confidentiality.

Unlike several other rescue organisations, we’re rescuing UK based horses rather than those in France or Ireland – this means that you can come and meet and try a horse before you commit to re-homing them. In fact, we positively encourage you to meet and try horses that you're interested in - we want to ensure the best match and to make sure that there is a rapport between horse and carer before you take your new friend home.

We know that we can’t offer a lifeline to all horses and we’re also realistic about the sale of horses for meat, there are just too many horses out there.  We just believe in giving a chance to some horses who would otherwise have a very uncertain future.

We operate a no-breeding policy too. Any colts or entire horses that we take in are gelded, and we include a no breeding clause in our re-homing agreements.

Our Aims

Our aims are simple....

No.1
To raise a minimum of £15000 for the rescue and re-homing of a minimum of 8-12 UK horses and ponies in the 12 months from November 2011 to the end of October 2012.

No.2
To work with horses who are “at risk” - and who would otherwise not have a future.

No.3
To raise funds through a combination of donations, rehoming fees, chocolate sales and horse / pony sponsorship.

No.4
To provide safe and secure long term homes for “Going Home” horses.
